Troy and Maura's Engagement Session at The Buffalo History Museum and Japanese Gardens - Photographed by Ariel Hawkins Photography

Some sessions just click from the very first second, and this was one of them.

I met Troy and Maura at the Japanese Gardens behind the Buffalo History Museum right as the cherry blossoms were putting on their full show. Soft petals, dreamy light, and the kind of setting that feels almost too perfect to be real.

And then Troy and Maura showed up… somehow matching the entire scene without even trying too hard. Their outfits tied in with the florals so naturally it felt like they were part of the landscape. It was effortless, thoughtful, and honestly just really fun to photograph.

But what stood out even more than how good they looked was how they felt. Completely relaxed, go with the flow, just happy to be there together. The kind of energy that makes my job feel easy.

I knew right away they were my people the second Maura threw her arms open to greet me like we had known each other forever. No awkwardness, no hesitation, just instant warmth.

By the end of the session, it didn’t feel like I had just photographed their engagement photos. It felt like I had spent the evening hanging out with friends.

And those are always the sessions that stay with me.

Please enjoy this sneak peek.
